Our passion is raising animals with love and care, and producing food that is wholesome and full of nutrients. Raising our chickens on pasture, free ranging from around their 3rd week, means they have access to a diverse range of pasture species, get to lay in the sunshine and feel the breeze across their feathers. We move their large coops regularly, plus their feed and water so they cover a large area free ranging. Their scratching and droppings help to boost our soil and pasture health.
We grow them slowly to develop flavour, texture and size, and they can be purchased whole, or in cut packs. We also sell frames, feet and livers, sausages, mince and some ready to eat options.
We chose these low maintenance breeds because of their suitability for our region, to minimise the need for docking and crutching, and because we believe the quality of their meat when raised on pasture is both delicious and nutritious.
We move them regularly to maximise soil & pasture health, and also the health of our sheep. We’ve spent a lot of time handling our sheep quietly, so that they come running when they see us, and they will follow us up into the sheep yards, and for paddock moves. Our herd alpacas help to protect our ewes and lambs from predators.
Our lambs & hoggets are either born here on the farm, or if we don’t have enough wethers born, we purchase after weaning from a select group of small local farmers, who are as passionate about their sheep as we are. We then finish growing them out with our mob here at Branch & Burrow.
Our sheep are processed and then packaged by our local butcher, and are available in 3 & 5kg boxes that can be purchased from our Farm Store or at the Farmers Markets
We are excited to purchase beautiful heritage pigs from Dewsbury Pork & Pig Stud, they are passionate about preserving rare breeds, and they have beautiful award winning Duroc and Hampshire pigs. They raise them outdoors and with great attention to their health and wellbeing.
We move them regularly to maximise soil & pasture health, and also reduce the incidence of issues like worms. All the pigs that we get from Dewsburys have great temperaments, and we spend a lot of time hanging out with them, so paddock moves and transporting them is all done without causing them stress.
The pigs help us to break up the soil in compacted areas on the farm, and along with their manure the pasture bounces back with great vigour, which creates fantastic diverse pasture for our other animals.
The pigs are then processed and then packaged by our local butcher, and are available in 3 & 5kg boxes that can be purchased from our Online Farm Store or a la carte at the Farmers Markets
